A patient who tried to end his life at the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College and Hospital under the influence of alcohol died on Tuesday.

The police said, Krishnan, 36, a resident of Anna Nagar in Uchhipuli under the influence of alcohol went to the house of his younger brother Muneeswaran, 30, two days ago. Krishnan allegedly attacked his mother at Mr. Muneeswaran’s house.

When Mr. Muneeswaran intervened, an argument broke out between the two. During the altercation, Krishnan allegedly stabbed Mr. Muneeswaran with a knife.

Mr. Muneeswaran is under treatment at the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College and Hospital. The Uchhipuli police had registered a case against Krishnan and had been searching for him.

On Monday night, Krishnan reached the hospital to patch up with his brother and other family members in order to drop the case registered against him. Again, an argument broke out between Krishnan and his family. Subsequently, out of fear that the police would arrest him in the case, Krishnan, who was intoxicated, tried to kill himself on the hospital premises. In the melee, he fractured his right leg and injured his waist. He became unconscious and was under treatment in the hospital. He died on Tuesday morning.

The Ramanathapuram Town police have registered a case and are investigating.
