The Principal District and Sessions Court in Tiruvallur has sentenced a 28-year-old man to double life imprisonment and 16 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a woman near Uthukottai in January 2025.
The incident took place when Poongodi, 54, went to visit her daughter in Chennankarani village on January 6, 2025.
According to the prosecution, the accused, Raja sexually assaulted her in an isolated spot near the house. Local residents found her injured and rushed her to a hospital.
The Uthukottai All Women Police registered a case and arrested Raja. He was produced before the Uthukottai court and remanded in Puzhal Central Prison.
The trial was conducted before the Tiruvallur court, with J. Jaiganesh for the prosecution.
After examining the evidence, the court on Friday held Raja guilty, sentenced him to prison, and imposed a fine of ₹1.25 lakh on him.
