A man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly posing as a police officer and tricking a two-wheeler rider into handing over his vehicle in Koyambedu.
The police said Shankar, 53, a resident of School Street in Koyambedu, runs a tiffin shop. On July 31, Shankar was riding towards the Koyambedu market when Ramesh, 42, of Kollimedu in Avadi, allegedly intercepted him. He took Shankar’s vehicle key, claiming that he needed to conduct a check. He asked Shankar to blow into a device and told him that he smelt of alcohol. He then took possession of his two-wheeler, made Shankar sit behind him, and rode towards School Street.
After travelling some distance, Ramesh said he had to collect his bag and asked Shankar to get off the two-wheeler. He then fled with the vehicle. When he failed to return, Shankar lodged a complaint with the CMBT police station.
Based on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and arrested Ramesh, who was working as a token attendant at a two-wheeler parking facility in Koyambedu.
