A 34-year-old man was killed after being dragged by a car driven by his friend following a violent altercation between the duo on Sunday night, in the limits of the Hebbagodi police station in Bengaluru.
The victim has been identified as Prashanth, a resident of Veerasandra.
According to the complaint, Prashanth and his friend, Roshan, 33, were behind the M5 Mall, where a cricket match was being played. After the match, the duo consumed alcohol at the ground.
An argument broke out between the two over a cigarette lighter. It then escalated into a physical fight. Roshan allegedly assaulted Prashanth with a beer bottle, who also retaliated. During the scuffle, Roshan sustained injuries.
Later, Roshan attempted to flee in his car. Prashanth reportedly clung to the car door, refusing to let him escape. Despite this, Roshan allegedly continued driving at high speed along the Veerasandra-Kamasandra Road.
The police said the accused deliberately crashed the car into a tree and later into a compound wall in an attempt to knock off Prashanth. Due to the impact, Prashanth suffered severe injuries and died on the spot.
Initially, the incident was reported to emergency services as a road accident. However, upon detailed examination, the investigation revealed that it was a case of murder.
The entire sequence of events was captured on the car’s dashcam, which served as a crucial evidence. The accused was arrested within one hour of the incident. According to the police, the accused is from Udupi and was working as a software engineer at a private firm, while the deceased was unemployed.
A case has been registered at the Hebbagodi police station.
