Man on parole held on murder charge; four others also arrested by Dindigul police

The Dindigul district police arrested five persons, including Selvakumar (34), who had been serving term at Madurai Central Prisons in connection with an honour killing crime involving the death of Udumalaipet Shankar on Saturday.

Following a complaint from Palpandi (35) of Salaiyur in Dindigul district, the Taluk Police had registered a case.

Superintendent of Police Jeyakumar had formed special teams.

It is said that some five to six persons had visited Palpandi’s premises and demanded money. He has been running a finance company.

When he refused to give money, the gang led by Selvakumar had threatened him with dire consequences and forcibly pulled off his gold chain weighing 12 sovereigns. When he raised an alarm, the gang left the valuables and escaped.

A special team formed, secured Selvakumar, his accomplice – Ranjith Kumar (28), Gubendran (34), Sendil Pandi (36) and Ramkumar (33). One more suspect was at large and a hunt was on to secure him too, the police said.

The police said that Selvakumar had recently come out on parole citing his mother’s ailment on September 28 for 30 days.

The SP said that stern action would be taken against persons who threaten the common man and posed disturbance to maintenance of law and order. Further investigation was on.
