D. Vedavyasa Kamath, Mangaluru City South MLA, has urged the State government to extend Dasara holidays for schools and colleges to October 23.

In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada and the Chief Secretary of Karnataka, the MLA said that the government has declared Dasara holidays from October 3 to 21.

However, the Dasara celebrations in Mangaluru last till the morning of October 23. It applies to the celebrations at Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple, Urwa Marigudi Temple, Kudroli Bhagavathi Temple, Mangaladevi Temple, Venkatramana Temple and Acharya Mutt.

Many people with their families, including children, take part in the celebrations. Hence, the holidays should be extended by two more days to enable them to participate, said Mr. Kamath.

The MLA also wrote on the same to Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P.L. Dharma.

He requested Basavaraj Rayaraddi, Minister for Higher Education, and Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for School Education and Literacy, to intervene and recommend to the government to extend the holidays.
