Maragathalingam stolen from temple – The Hindu

A maragathalingam (emerald lingam) was reported stolen from the Kashi Visalakshmi Udanurai Kashi Viswanathar Temple at Ilaiyur near Jayankondam on Thursday.

According to sources, Kaliyaperumal, priest of the temple, after performing puja on Wednesday night, locked the door and slept in the hall, located in front of the temple. Kaliyaperumal did not find the key, which he had kept under his pillow, when he woke up in the morning. He later found that the temple was opened using the key and the maragathalingam was missing. On being alerted, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment authorities and the police, who rushed to the spot, conducted enquiries.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the Executive Office of the temple, the Jayamkondam police have registered a case and are investigating.
