The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) on Wednesday sealed the deal with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for the upcoming Assembly elections. The party is set to contest four Assembly seats, of which three will be on the DMK’s ‘Rising Sun’ symbol and one on its own symbol.
The seat-sharing agreement was signed by DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and MDMK general secretary Vaiko at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters on Wednesday evening.
The MDMK, as a part of the ruling party-led alliance, had won four of the six Assembly segments it contested in 2021 on the DMK’s ‘Rising Sun’ symbol. The entry of new parties into the DMK-led alliance now has led the MDMK to settle for four seats.
Earlier in the day, at the MDMK’s high-level meeting at the party headquarters in Egmore, senior leaders including Mr. Vaiko and headquarters secretary and Tiruchi Lok Sabha member Durai Vaiko held discussions regarding the number of seats offered by the DMK. The meeting lasted for more than three hours, during which leaders also discussed the party’s strategy for the upcoming elections.
