A 28-year-old migrant worker was electrocuted and two others were seriously injured during construction work in Nanganallur on Monday.

A senior official of the City police said a two-storey house was under construction in the Hindu Colony 2nd Main Road of Nanganallur. Three construction workers including Mangal Asra from West Bengal, Ramu, 54, from B.V. Nagar, and Guna, 48, from Nehru Colony of Palavanthangal were carrying iron rods up the staircase for the centering work to be carried out.

While doing so, the iron rods they were carrying brushed against a high-tension overhead power line passing near the construction site causing electric shock to all three men. Residents nearby, hearing their cries, rushed them to a private hospital and later took them to the Tambaram Government General Hospital where Mangal Asra was pronounced brought dead.

Ramu and Guna, who sustained severe burn injuries on their hands, legs, and necks due to the shock, are currently undergoing treatment. The Pazhavanthangal police have registered a case and are investigating.
