Minsiter for Energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Monday (December 22, 2025) launched an innovative public outreach programme ‘Currentolla Janabata’ under the jurisdiction of the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) at Mogarala village in Pakala Mandal of Tirupati district.

Along with APSPDC Chairman and Managing Director Shivasankar Lotheti, Chittoor MP Daggumalla Prasad Rao, Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Nani, and Puthalapattu MLA K. Murali Mohan, he also inaugurated a newly constructed 33/11 KV sub-station at the same village.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the programme ‘Currentolla Janabata’ has been launched with the objective of ensuring quick redressal of consumer grievances. Through this initiative, the Electricity Department officials and staff will regularly visit villages within the DISCOM limits to inspect 11 KV, LT, and agricultural power lines, rectify hanging wires, replace damaged or leaning poles, enhance transformer plinth heights where required, install fencing around transformers, and take preventive measures to avoid electrical accidents in schools and Anganwadi premises.

He instructed officials to remain alert and responsive to consumer issues and emphasised the need to create greater awareness on rooftop solar systems, especially in rural areas. The Minister also interacted with villagers at Krishnapuram, inquiring about power consumption, billing, and service-related issues.

He informed that the new sub-station was constructed at a cost of ₹4.09 crore, and would significantly address long-standing low voltage problems in the region. He stated that the government is giving special focus to the construction of new sub-stations across the State to permanently resolve voltage issues.

The Minister highlighted that the establishment of new sub-stations is ensuring reliable and quality power supply not only to domestic consumers but also to farmers. Providing uninterrupted electricity for agriculture, industries, and households remains the primary objective of the coalition government, he added.

Commenting on power tariffs, he criticised the previous YSRCP government for hiking electricity fares nine times, imposing an additional burden of nearly ₹20,000 crore on the public. He stated that the present government has taken corrective measures by reducing tariffs through a 13 paise per unit true-down, providing relief to consumers. He also pointed out that excessive power purchases at high rates without adding generation capacity had increased the financial burden on the public during the previous regime.
