KARIMNAGAR
Minister for Animal Husbandry Vakiti Srihari said the State government was committed to the welfare of the shepherd community and urged sheep rearers to improve the productivity of sheep and goats to enhance their incomes.
Mr. Srihari, along with Minister for Backward Classes Welfare and Transport Ponnam Prabhakar, launched the State government’s sheep and goat insurance scheme by releasing a poster.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Srihari said rearers could insurance their sheep and goats by paying only ₹13 per animal a year, with the government bearing the remaining premium.
He said steps would also be taken to waive loans of sheep rearers and implement more welfare measures in a transparent manner. Mr. Prabhakar said around 3,200 members are presently enrolled in about 750 Golla Kuruma cooperative societies in the district.
Responding to a request from members of the society for pensions from the age of 55, Mr. Prabhakar said that a proposal would be forwarded to the government.
He said the Cabinet had approved a ₹5 lakh life insurance for each member under the Indiramma Bima scheme.
He urged the Animal Husbandry Minister to facilitate the allotment of vacant government land for sheep rearing and suggested establishing a wholesale meat market in Karimnagar.
Earlier, the Ministers unveiled the statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar at the Karimnagar bus station premises and garlanded the statue of Chakali Ilamma on her birth anniversary.
The Ministers later participated in the “Mudiraj Simhagarjana” meeting in Sircilla and reviewed arrangements for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the town on September 30.
