Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru on Friday inspected the progress of construction of a new omnibus terminus adjacent to the Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) at Panjapur on the Tiruchi-Madurai Highway.
Accompanied by Collector V. Saravanan, Mayor M. Anbazhagan, and Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan, the Minister held an on the spot review on the progress of it. He directed the officials to complete the work as early as possible to throw open the new facility in January.
The facility has been developed on four acres at a cost of ₹17.60 crore. Of this, ₹8.80 crore was provided through the State government’s Capital Grant Fund while the remaining amount was met by the Tiruchi Corporation from its General Funds. The project comprises a built-up area of 30,849 sq. ft., with 1,42,945 sq. ft. earmarked for bus movement. The terminus will feature two platforms with 58 bus bays, comprising 34 bays for mobile buses, and 24 for waiting buses, ensuring the smooth operation of buses.
At present, omnibuses are operating from a temporary long-term parking bay near the IBT to pick up passengers and they are no longer permitted to operate from the Central Bus Stand area.
Later, Mr. Nehru visited the Integrated Vegetables and Fruits market being constructed at Panjapur. He asked the officials to review it frequently to complete the project as early as possible.
