A 63-year-old man who had been reported missing from Mavungal was found dead, trapped in a parked excavator at a construction site near the Subramanya temple here on Wednesday.
Police said the deceased was identified as Surendra Mohanan (63) of Nellikkatte, Kanhangad. His body was found wedged near the fuel tank of the excavatore parked close to his ancestral house at Mavungal.
Surendra Mohanan had been missing since Sunday. After receiving information that he was seen in the Mavungal area, relatives launched a search, during which the body was discovered. Fire and Rescue Services units reached the spot and retrieved the body.
Relatives said Surendra Mohanan suffered from memory related illness. His brother Pavithran, a Deputy Tehsildar, had died a week ago. He is survived by his wife Shantha and sons.
