The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre has expressed condolences over the death of Nana Patekar, actor and director.

“The MLIRC fraternity deeply mourns the sad demise of Mr. Patekar, distinguished actor, filmmaker and Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Army. His association with The centre began with three years of rigorous military training at Belagavi for his acclaimed film Prahaar: The Final Attack. His iconic portrayal of Major V. S. Chavan of Kali Panchvi vividly captured the courage, discipline and indomitable spirit of the MLIRC soldier. His bond with the regiment extended well beyond cinema, as he maintained a warm and enduring association with the regiment, remaining in personal touch with members of the MLIRC fraternity. His service alongside army personnel during the 1999 Kargil War further reflected his deep respect for the uniform and commitment to the nation,” the centre said.

The Colonel, Commandant and others convey their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, and the regiment would fondly remember him as Major V.S. Chavan of Prahaar, whose memorable portrayal immortalised the valour and ethos of the MLIRC soldier. His enduring camaraderie with the regiment and its personnel would remain a cherished legacy, said a release.
