Hassan Lok Sabha member Shreyas M. Patel of the Congress has described the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as a disappointing document that has given a stepmotherly treatment to Karnataka.
In his response to the Budget, Mr. Shreyas Patel stated that the people of Karnataka, particularly those from Hassan, had many expectations. However, the Budget turned out to be disappointing. “We were hoping for the sanctioning of an IIT for Hassan. Similarly, we were hoping for funds to tackle the human-elephant conflict in the district. There is no mention of any of these in the Budget, and there is no announcement to attract industries to Hassan,” he stated.
The anganwadi workers had been expecting an increase in their honorarium; however, their demand remained unaddressed. “The Union Government has also neglected the agriculture sector. The scheme announced to support coconut growers is limited to the coastal region. There are a large number of coconut growers in Tumakuru and parts of Hassan who have been neglected,” he commented.
The MP further questioned the rationale behind the recent JD(S) rally in Hassan, asking why it was held if the party, despite being a partner of the NDA at the Centre, was unable to secure funding for the district.
