A 28-year-old woman, associated in a murder case, who had been absconding for the past five years was arrested on Saturday (September 19, 2026).
According to the police, Tej Mandal (27), a native of Bangladesh, owned a spa at Kumarasamipatti in Salem. In October 2021, she was murdered, and her body was found in a suitcase at the spa. The Hasthampatti police registered a case, inquired and found four women staff of the spa allegedly murdered her in a money dispute and absconded.
The police had been on the lookout for the four accused for the past five years. Acting on tip-off that one of the accused, Nishirafi Sheikh (28), is hiding in Pune in Maharashtra, a special team of police went to Pune and arrested her on Saturday.
Police sources said that she will be brought to Salem, after investigations, and will be remanded in prison.
