The Mylapore Fine Arts Club conferred the title ‘Nataka Kala Nipuna’ on director, producer, and stage actor ‘Mapillai’ Ganesh here on Sunday.
While speaking at the inauguration of the club’s 22nd year Drama Festival, Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, industrialist and president of The Mylapore Fine Arts Club, said Mr. Ganesh would get under the skin of a character, and his co-artists too gave life to the characters they played. His dramas centred around the events that occurred in a family, allowing audiences to relate to them.
Theatre director Bombay Chanakya said that for the last 22 years, The Mylapore Fine Arts Club had been honouring and encouraging drama artistes.
‘Committed artiste’
He said Mr. Ganesh began his career in 1981 and for the last 45 years, he has been successful in this field. He has also been running his drama troupe sincerely for the last 25 years. “Mr. Ganesh is a dependable and a committed artiste,” Mr. Chanakya added.
After accepting the honour, Mr. Ganesh said that for any theatre artiste, receiving such awards and gaining appreciation from the audience truly went a long way in encouraging and pushing them to do more.
