The valedictory session on the second day of the two-day national conference organised by the Department of History with the sponsorship of the Indian Council for Historical Research on ‘Culture and Traditions of the Pandya Culture: Gleaned from Archaeological Implications’ was held at Fatima College here on Wednesday.
Nitin Kumar, Assistant Director of Indian Historical Research (ICHR), speaking at the event said, “The role of temples as epicentres for cultural diffusion and international commerce was pioneered by the Pandyas and later brought to its zenith by the Chola dynasty.”
He also spoke about the importance of history as it is the mother of all subjects.
Gauri Dey, Professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, in her special address, compared the important literatures like Manimegalai of Tamil Nadu and Manasamangala of West Bengal, and spoke about the importance of women in history.
Secretary of Fatima College, Rev. Sr. Ignatius Mary, delivered the presidential address.
