National Lok Adalat disposes of over 5,800 cases in Tiruchi district

As part of the nationwide initiative of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi, and under the directions of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority (TNSLSA), a National Lok Adalat was held across Tiruchi district courts on Saturday.

A total of 23 Lok Adalat benches were constituted — 13 benches at the Tiruchi court complex, two each at Musiri, Thuraiyur, Manapparai, and Lalgudi, and one each at Srirangam and Thottiyam. Various categories of cases were taken up and disposed of through amicable settlements, benefiting litigants.

According to official data, 20,669 cases were taken up during the Lok Adalat, of which 5,882 cases were settled, resulting in settlements amounting to over ₹52.82 crore.

Among the cases settled were 4,817 compoundable criminal cases, involving a settlement amount of about ₹95.9 lakh, 402 motor accident compensation cases amounting to over ₹25.5 crore, and 199 cheque dishonour cases involving settlements of nearly ₹7.48 crore. Other cases included bank loan recovery matters, labour compensation cases, family welfare disputes, land acquisition cases, and other civil disputes. In addition, 363 pre-litigation bank loan recovery cases were also settled.

The arrangements for the National Lok Adalat were made under the directions of Principal District Judge M. Christopher, with A. Prabhu, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Tiruchi, coordinating the event.
