The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is considering a pioneering ‘Divine Plantation’ project over 100 acres of land to cultivate auspicious trees required for the ‘Dwajasthambham’, the holy flag mast, central to Agama-compliant Hindu temples.
TTD Trust Board Chairman B.R. Naidu said the initiative would ensure availability of ritually sanctified, home-grown timber for temples managed and established by the Hindu institutions.
The project, aligned with the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, aims to blend ecological responsibility with preservation of ancient traditions.
As per Agama Shastra, ‘Dwajasthambhams’ must be crafted from a single, mature sacred tree such as teak, Indian kino, or select Shorea species, nurtured over decades and consecrated through prescribed rites.
By raising these ‘temple trees’ in its lands, TTD seeks to ensure Agamic purity, sustainability and self-reliance for future generations.
