The working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former minister K.T. Rama Rao has accused Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of indulging in his (KTR’s) character assassination for the last two years in the name phone-tapping case and harassing him and other BRS leaders without finding any substance against them so far.
Mr. Rama Rao met with some senior leaders of the party at the BRS office in Hyderabad on Friday (January 23, 2026) morning before going to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office in response to a notice received in the phone tapping case. The party leaders including S. Madhusudana Chary, T. Harish Rao, R.S. Praveen Kumar, G. Sunitha Mahender Reddy and several others were present at the party office.
“I have never indulged in any illegal and immoral activities including phone-tapping during the nearly 10-year period of BRS rule. The Congress Government has resorted to my character assassination by levelling baseless charges against me stating that I have got a heroine’s phone tapped and took drugs. It has caused mental agony to my family members including my children”, Mr. Rama Rao said.
In fact, some of the Cabinet members have already revealed privately that their phone were being tapped at the behest of the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and they were worried even to speak on phone, the BRS leader said and asked whether any police officer involved in the investigation of the case could say on record that phones were not being tapped in the State now.
Stating that phone-tapping would be done by the Police department legally in case there was a threat to the country’s security or there were attempts to destabilise a government, such as the 2015 incident of “a thief being caught red-handed with a cash bag to bribe an MLA seeking his support for Telugu Desam Party candidate in the MLC election in 2015. Now, the same thief is in vengeance mode and harassing the BRS leaders”.
Mr. Rama Rao said the BRS leaders were being harassed in the name of Kaleshwaram, formula-e car and other cases as they had been exposing scams involving the Congress leaders and their kin in the coal overburden contracts and several others. The party leader Mr. Harish Rao was served a notice by the SIT on the same day on which he had spilled beans on the coal scam.
Mr. Rama Rao asserted that he would not leave anybody including the police officers who were showing over enthusiasm in the name of case investigation and take necessary legal action. Earlier, a legal team of the BRS explained Mr. Rama Rao about the kind of questions he was likely to face from the SIT. Mr. Harish Rao too stated that they (BRS) would not spare the police officers kowtowing to the Congress party, even after their (officers) retirement.
