New arrangement to be made at Ponmeni junction to decongest traffic

Buoyed over the success of new traffic arrangement put up on Dindigul By-pass Road at Arapalayam junction, Madurai City Traffic Police have made similar arrangement to remove the traffic signal on the same road at Ponmeni junction.

The new traffic arrangement would come into effect from Tuesday.

The new measure is aimed at decongesting traffic on the junction connecting four busy road.

Instead of allowing right turn from all four roads at the same junction, the traffic police have closed that stretch of opening on the junction.

Instead, the police have separated the flow of traffic from both sides of the road — those coming from S.S. Colony and Ponmeni — by providing two separate openings, located some 160 metres apart, on the median.

As per the new arrangement, vehicles coming from Kalavasal junction and proceeding towards Palanganatham and vice-versa can continue to proceed on the By-pass road without having to wait at the junction.

Vehicles coming from Kalavasal junction and want to take right turn towards Ponmeni should go some 100 metres ahead of the erstwhile Ponmeni junction and make a U-turn on road to take free left turn towards Ponmeni.

Similarly, vehicles coming from Palangantham and proceeding towards S.S. Colony should proceed some 60 metres ahead of the Ponmeni junction and take U-turn on the road and then proceed towards S.S. Colony.

Similarly, vehicles coming from Ponmeni and want to proceed towards Kalavasal can take free left turn as usual.

However, vehicles coming from Ponmeni and want to go to Palanganatham should take free left turn for 60 metres and then take a U-turn towards Palanganatham.

Similarly, vehicles coming from S.S. Colony can take free-left turn as usual.

However, those vehicles from S.S. Colony proceeding towards Kalavasal should take left turn for 100 metres and then take a U-turn to proceed towards Kalavasal.
