The Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise, S. Muthusamy, who is also the district secretary of the DMK for Erode South district, has clarified that a new bronze statue of Kalingarayan will be installed at a location in Vellode and inaugurated on January 19, 2026.
In a press release, the Minister said that due to traffic congestion in Vellode, the Vellode–Pasur Road junction was widened and a roundabout constructed, following which the statue of Kalingarayan was removed. Acting on the directions of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, steps were taken to install the statue at an alternative location with adequate space.
The release said that though several sites were inspected, a suitable land could not be identified initially. Subsequently, a private land near the Arulmigu Rasa Temple was identified and purchased for the purpose. Steps were under way to install a full-length bronze statue of Kalingarayan, and orders for casting the statue had already been placed.
The release further said that a small library with books related to Kalingarayan was also being planned at the site. All works would be completed and inaugurated on Kalingarayan Day on January 19, 2026, the release added.
