Reverend Derek Fernandes inaugurated the newly-built curch of St Sebastian in Santibastawad village near Belagavi, in Karnataka, on January 31.

Rev. Eusebio Fernandes, the former administrator of the diocese, who was instrumental in constructing the church was felicitated.

He said that every person’s body is like a temple, and that the new church would inspire people to come closer to God through prayers and meditation. He lauded the role of Fr. Eusebio Fernandes as a true and inspiring leader, and the villagers for coming up with such a beautiful church. “I only did the role of choosing a good leader for the task. Fr. Eusebio has done an excellent job,” Bishop Fernandes said.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Roshan urged the people to live stress-free lives while contributing positively to society. He urged youngsters to shed hatred, and look towards productive and fruitful life amid the bombardment of social media. “We are all the children of this glorious nation. The future of this nation is in our hands. We should contribute towards nation building in our own way,” Mr. Roshan said.

The Bishop felicitated MLC Channaraj Hattiholi, Mr. Roshan, engineers Peter Dsouza and Vijay Moogi.

Fr. Philip Kutty, Fr. Freddy Raj, Fr. Franky Dsouza, Fr. Pramodkumar, and heads of various congregations of nuns and believers were among those present.
