The country’s growth story was filled with opportunities as the next generation workforce talent made it a global destination for investment, according to R. Shankar Raman, President and Wholetime Director – Finance, Larsen and Toubro.
Delivering the 40th Convocation Day address at SASTRA Deemed University, Thirumalaisamudhram near Thanjavur on Saturday, Mr. Shankar Raman said healthcare, education, public transport and utilities, semiconductor, water, defence and energy and environment were the strategic areas of investment that shall leverage the bountiful demographic dividend.
He added that there must be a coordinated effort between industry and academia to provide a balance between grounded knowledge in traditional disciplines and continuous learning in emerging technologies.
“While the first degree is for first job, continuous learning is for the last job,” he said and urged graduates to be mentally agile and adaptable to face emerging challenges and be an integral part of nation building which offers a bouquet of career opportunities.
A total of 4,414 students were conferred with various UG, PG, and Ph.D. degree in engineering, sciences, management, law, education and social sciences disciplines at the convocation. The founder Chancellor’s Best Ph.D. thesis award was presented to three scholars – Dr. Hari Suthan, Dr. Anusree Sajeevan and Dr. Satya M. — from Engineering, Sciences and non-STEM disciplines. The Lord Selvamuthukumaran Award for Overall Academic Excellence and the Silver Jubilee Alumni Award for the Best Outgoing Girl Graduate Student were both awarded to Biyyappu Hari Keerthi of the B.Tech. ECE degree programme, according to a university release.
