In a move that would bring a sigh of relief to motorists, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has floated a tender for rectification of four major accident-prone blackspots on Tiruchi-Chennai Bypass Road on Chennai-Tiruchi-Madurai National Highway at a total cost of ₹204.73 crore.

It includes construction of an elevated rotary at G.Corner near Ponmalai and vehicular underpasses at the highly congested intersections at Maruthi Nagar, Srirangam Y-Road junction and Sanjeevi Nagar. The heavy traffic congestion and frequent accidents at these intersections in recent years raised concern among motorists and road safety activists in the city.
