The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a charge sheet before the NIA Special Court in Vijayawada against nine accused in an online radicalisation case.
The Two Town police of the NTR Commissionerate had registered a case in March this year and arrested 11 persons, including a minor. The case was subsequently transferred to the NIA.
According to the NIA, the accused were supporters of the proscribed terrorist organisation Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and had conspired to establish a caliphate and foment violence by spreading messages of terrorist groups through various social media platforms to radicalise gullible youth.
The accused, natives of different States, allegedly developed a separate application to communicate secretly among themselves and planned violent activities, the investigation agency said.
The case was registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Section 66F of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The investigation is continuing, the NIA said in a release.
