Nine persons with mental health conditions, who had been living on the streets and seeking alms in different parts of Erode district, were rescued and provided treatment by the Atchayam Trust. They were reunited with their families in Uttar Pradesh and will be sent home on September 25 (Friday).
The nine had been living on the streets for nearly two years. They were identified with the help of information provided by members of the public to the trust. The trust traced their families in Uttar Pradesh and provided them with rehabilitation. Having recovered, they will be sent to their native places by train on Friday, with the assistance of trust volunteers and officials of the District Differently Abled Welfare Department. The nine met Collector S. Kandasamy at the Collectorate and thanked him for the assistance extended to them.
District Differently Abled Welfare Officer Shankar Ganesh and Atchayam Trust founder P. Naveenkumar were among those present.
