Police have started implementing `No Helmet – No Petrol’ rule in the district as part of road safety initiatives to bring down road accidents and fatalities.
As per the instructions of Superintendent of Police P Jagadeesh, the police has made it mandatory that a motorist should be wearing a helmet to get fuel at the petrol filling station. Police officials said most of the fatalities are of two-wheeler riders and not wearing a helmet is the cause of death in many cases.
To encourage motorists to wear a helmet while riding a two-wheeler, the police took up this initiative and have felicitated those who were wearing a helmet with rose flower or a silver coin. On the occasion, the police asked the citizens to be part in preventing road accidents.
