No proposal to extend Namma Metro to Doddaballapur: State govt.

There is currently no proposal to extend the Namma Metro line to Doddaballapur, the Karnataka government informed the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

Not beyond KIA

Replying during Question Hour to BJP member Dheeraj Muniraju, Minister for Revenue Krishna Byre Gowda, answering on behalf of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, said there were no plans to extend the Metro line beyond Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) at Devanahalli. He added that the Namma Metro line connecting the city to KIA is expected to become operational by 2027.

Mr. Gowda explained that any proposal to extend the metro to Doddaballapur would first have to be placed before the expert committee under the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for evaluation and approval. While the government may refer such a proposal to the CMP at an appropriate time, no such plan is currently under consideration.

Raising the issue, Mr. Muniraju argued that extending the metro to Doddaballapur was essential, citing the presence of several national and global firms in the area. He also pointed to major projects such as the KWIN City project and Foxconn’s facilities located in the town.

In a separate reply to BJP MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Mr. Gowda said the government has approved a ₹35 lakh proposal to provide basic facilities in stadiums within the Mangaluru City Assembly constituency.

Illegal sale of liquor

Responding to a question from BJP MLA Aihole Duryodhana Mahalingappa, Excise Minister R.B. Thimmapur said the department had taken steps to curb the illegal sale of liquor in grocery shops. Mr. Mahalingappa urged strict action against officials, alleging that illegal liquor sales in rural areas were leading to addiction among even young children.

Mr. Thimmapur stated that 357 raids were conducted in the Raibagh constituency over the last two years (2023–25). Cases were registered against 322 individuals, and authorities seized 370 litres of liquor and seven vehicles.
