T.N. Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar pays floral tributes to the statue of S.S. Ramasami Padayatchiyar, social activist and legislator, on his 109th birth anniversary on Wednesday.

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar on Wednesday, asserted that no searches, including by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), police or any other security agencies could be done without any evidence. He was responding to a query on the ongoing searches by a team from Central Crime Branch of Chennai City Police at places linked to former DMK School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
The searches were held in connection with a case registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the alleged multi-crore fraud of private schools. “Being in public life for over 50 years, I can say with confidence that such searches by any government could be conducted only based on some fundamental evidence. No action can be taken without any basis,” he said.
The Speaker was in Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur district, where he paid his respects to the statue of S.S. Ramasami Padayatchiyar, social activist and legislator, on his 109th birth anniversary in the presence of Forest Minister R.V. Ranjith Kumar and Tirupattur Collector V. Nallasivan.
When he was asked about the two Left parties, CPI and CPI (M), contesting the bypolls in Tamil Nadu independently, Mr. Prabhakar said that every political party had the right to take a decision based on its principles.
He also dismissed the claims made by DMK that he did not give adequate time for them to speak during the Budget Session. “My intention was not to strangulate anyone’s voice. Instead, opportunity to speak was given at the right time and occasion in the floor of the Legislative Assembly,” he said.
