NSS hosts anti-drug campaign in Kozhikode

As part of the NSS Day observance, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers organised an anti-drug awareness programme with the participation of 1,700 members at Mananchira Square here on Thursday (September 24, 2026).

The volunteers turned up for the event as ‘Toofan Commandos’ in solidarity with the State government’s ‘Toofan’ anti-drug campaign. The district-level programme was part of a series of awareness activities organised at district headquarters across Keralam under the State NSS Cell.

The programme was jointly organised by the NSS Calicut University and the District Social Justice Office. Volunteers from the Calicut University NSS, Higher Secondary NSS, Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Technical NSS Cell, and the Institute of Human Resources Development participated.

A human chain, anti-drug pledge, release of the theme song, release of balloons carrying anti-drug messages, and cultural programmes were among the activities organised as part of the campaign. District panchayat president Mili Mohan inaugurated the programme. Assistant Collector Malavika G. Nair presided. Assistant Commissioner of Police Binu Kumar made the ‘Toofan Commando’ declaration.

Calicut University NSS programme coordinator Risha Karally administered the Toofan anti-drug pledge to the volunteers. Programme coordinator Fazil Ahamed, District Social Justice Officer M. Anju Mohan, higher secondary regional convener S. Sreejith, district higher secondary convener M.K. Faisal, VHSE district coordinator A.P. Mahaboobali, and technical cell convener M. Nikhil spoke. Seventy-five programme officers from schools and colleges in the district were present to coordinate the event.
