Additional Superintendent of Mysuru district police Malik has instructed the officials of various departments to ensure that drugs are not used during the New Year celebrations.
Presiding over the district-level committee meeting of Narco Co-ordination Centre (NCORD) held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mysuru on Friday, Mr. Malik referred to the expanding network of narcotic drugs and emphasized the need to create awareness among the public and students about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
With the New Year approaching, he instructed the officials to take necessary steps to ensure that the narcotic drugs are not used during the celebrations.
He said awareness programmes on the ill-effects of drugs should be conducted in schools and colleges. “Since, there is a higher possibility of drug use in the shops located near colleges, special attention should be paid to such areas”, he said while also stressing the need to install CCTV cameras in schools and colleges and said teachers should closely monitor ‘grey areas’ within the educational educations.
Banners carrying information on the harmful effects of drugs should be installed near schools, colleges and in public places. Officials should conduct awareness programmes for students and take steps to prevent drug use, he said.
If information about the drug trafficking or the existence of drug networks comes to light, it should be reported to the police immediately and co-ordinated investigations should be carried out in the collaboration with them.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Crime) N.S. Sundar Raj and district-level officials from various departments were present.
