The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), along with the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) and other companies involved in onshore operations of oil and natural gas exploration have been directed to share their maps, geo-coordinates and details of wells, abandoned wells and pipelines in order to ready an action plan for disaster management preparedness in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.
At a district-level meeting attended by all stakeholders on Tuesday, District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar announced; “A disaster response team will be constituted, and will be available at the Collectorate to respond to any disaster, including gas leakage or blowout of natural gas from the wells in the district. The team will be equipped with necessary equipment which will be procured at a cost of ₹1 crore”.
“All companies must submit details of the installations, geo-coordinates of the pipeline systems, and wells both in service and abandoned, to facilitate the preparation of an action plan in the event of any disaster”, said Mr. Mahesh Kumar.
Joint Collector T. Nishanthi, Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Prasad, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories G.V.V.S. Narayana and other officials were present.
