Government Whip and Vemulawada MLA Aadi Srinivas, on Friday, said that the State government was taking concrete measures to ensure a sustainable livelihood for weavers in Sircilla by providing continuous production orders to the Sircilla textile industry.
Speaking after flagging off a rally organised to mark National Handloom Day in Sircilla, Mr. Srinivas said the government had placed orders for the production of 6.70 crore metres of fabric for the Indira Mahila Shakti saris last year.
He said orders had already been placed this year for the production of 4.50 crore metres of cloth for the sari scheme.
Mr. Srinivas said the government was also entrusting the production of government school uniforms and fabric required by various government departments to powerloom units in Sircilla to provide sustainable livelihood to the weaving community.
He said the Congress government had already cleared about ₹350 crore of the nearly ₹400 crore in dues owed to the Sircilla textile industry.
Stating that 80% of the payments for saris produced during 2025-26 had already been released, he said the remaining amount would be cleared shortly.
Under the Nethanna Bima scheme, financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each had been provided to the families of 129 weavers from Sircilla so far. Besides, the government had waived loans of up to ₹1 lakh for handloom weavers.
Earlier, a rally was taken out to create awareness about the importance of using handloom products and preserving Sircilla’s rich handloom heritage for future generations.
