Palnadu Superintendent of Police (SP) B. Krishna Rao initiated departmental action against Chilakaluripet Sub-Inspector (SI) Sk. Rahmathulla for alleged negligence of duty and violation of conduct rules in connection with a recent road accident on NH-16 near Chilakaluripet that claimed the lives of five engineering students.
The accident occurred when a truck was allegedly stopped abruptly on the highway by the accused, M. Venkat Naidu, following which the car carrying the students rammed into the stationary vehicle, resulting in the death of five out of six occupants. Venkat Naidu is the son of Assistant Sub-Inspector M. Srinivas.
According to police officials, the departmental action against the Sub-Inspector was initiated for serious lapses in discharging his official responsibilities in the aftermath of the accident. The charges include failure to immediately inform superior officers about the major accident, maintaining close associations with individuals involved in criminal activities and allegedly extending assistance to them.
The police further stated that the conduct of the Sub-Inspector had brought disrepute to the police department and eroded public confidence. Such actions amounted to grave misconduct and gross negligence, unbecoming of a government servant, police officials said.
The departmental proceedings cite violation of Rule 3 of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964. Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the inquiry, the officials added.
