Schools and colleges should not become ranking factories but temples teaching life lessons, said the members of Parents Association of Andhra Pradesh (PAAP). Expressing concern over nine student suicides within six months of the new academic year in SPSR Nellore district, the PAAP members conducted a round-table meeting here on Friday.

The PAAP members demanded the Chief Minister to immediately respond to the matter, implement the Supreme Court orders and release a white paper on these tragic incidents. On the occasion, PAAP president S. Narahari said, “We must save our children’s lives from ranking factories. Of the nine suicides, seven took place in hostels or colleges affiliated to educational institutions.”

“PAAP strongly argues that there is a systemic crisis in the State that is costing the lives of our children. The government has failed to release any white paper on this. On July 25, 2025, in the Sukdeb Saha case, the Supreme Court bench declared the mental health of students as a right to life under Article 21 and issued 15 mandatory guidelines. However, the A.P. government has not followed it,” he added.

The PAAP members warned that if the Supreme Court’s orders were not implemented immediately, it would be forced to file a contempt of court petition against the State government to protect the rights of the students.
