Parigi MLA T. Rammohan Reddy has been appointed as the State Coordinator for the revival and strengthening of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), which the Congress party described as vital for the livelihood security of rural poor and labourers.
Mr. Reddy was appointed at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting in New Delhi under the banner “MGNREGA Bachao Morcha”, which was presided over by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The meeting reviewed the impact of policy changes made by the Centre and expressed concern over reduced allocations and delays in wage payments under MGNREGA. The Congress leadership also discussed the form, strategy and action plan of a nationwide movement to be undertaken in the coming days to protect and revive the Act.
