The Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurances has promised to submit a report with recommendations to expedite the revival of the Hindustan Machine tools (HMT), Kalamassery unit, Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden said on Monday (October 5, 2026).

The committee, headed by Harendra Singh Malik, inspected the HMT unit on Monday following a sitting of the panel held in Kottayam on Saturday (October 3, 2026). The committee informed the MP that it would submit a report to the Lok Sabha incorporating its findings and recommend measures to the concerned Union ministries and authorities to speed up the revival process, Mr. Eden said in a statement.

Mr. Eden said the proceedings were part of the follow-up action on an assurance given by the Union government in response to a question raised by him in the Lok Sabha on February 4, 2025, regarding the cash-strapped public sector undertaking (PSU).

In its reply, the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries had stated that a technical committee, headed by Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, had been constituted to prepare a roadmap for the revival of the company.

Following the visit, Mr. Eden held discussions with the HMT management and trade union leaders. They decided to meet Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan soon to bring the issues concerning the PSU to the attention of the State government.
