Passenger arriving from Sharjah opens emergency door; held

A passenger arriving from United Arab Emirates (UAE) created a flutter after he opened the emergency door and tried to exit through the door on Sunday (May 3, 2026) morning. As a result, an international flight which was arriving to the city had to be diverted to Bengaluru. 

City police said an Air Arabia international flight had arrived in Chennai from Sharjah. As it landed on the runway, a passenger opened the emergency exit door. Before the passengers or the flight staff could respond, the emergency slide deployed, and the passenger jumped onto it and ran across the tarmac. However, the airport security staff caught him when he attempted to exit through the airport’s boarding area.
