
Persons with disabilities were given tricycles during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrations in Hubballi on Wednesday.

Chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti has said that children with physical disabilities had excelled in every field and they were in no way inferior to normal people.
He was inaugurating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities organised jointly by the Dharwad district administration, the zilla panchayat, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, the Department of Women and Child Development, various other departments, and non-governmental organisations in Hubballi on Wednesday.
Mr. Horatti emphasised the need for the ruling dispensation to take special care of persons with disabilities and he would also raise pending issues pertaining to their welfare with the Chief Minister. He said that the government was also working towards the welfare of persons with disabilities by implementing various programmes and schemes for them.
He also emphasised the need for the general public in joining hands with the government for the welfare of persons with disabilities.
Presiding over the function, MLA Mahesh Tenginakai said that self confidence was the biggest strength of persons with disabilities and it was everyone’s duty to boost their self confidence.
Referring to the success stories of persons with disabilities, Mr. Tenginakai said that disability would never be a hurdle for one’s achievement.
He said 38 vehicles worth ₹75 lakh were being handed to beneficiaries by the municipal corporation and already special tools and equipment worth ₹2 crore required for PWDs had been provided to Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute. This apart, special aids for them worth ₹ 23 lakhs were also being distributed among them, he said.
During the programme, tricycles, tools and aids were distributed and PWD achievers were honoured. Physically challenged children won the hearts of the audience by their heart touching performances on the occasion.
Mayor Jyoti Patil, Deputy Mayor Santosh Chavan, HDMC opposition leader Imran Yaligar and others were present.
