Vidya Sagar hosted its annual Namma Pasanga Angadi, which was inaugurated on Saturday in Chennai. As many as 57 stalls were put up by persons with disabilities from across the State. The NGO empowers individuals with disabilities through comprehensive services, education, therapy and vocational training.
The mela is an effort to provide a networking platform for entrepreneurs who are persons with disabilities.
Speaking about the initiative Kavithaa Narasimhan, product designing and marketing, Vidya Sagar said that this year was extra special as four micro enterprises under their programme were migrated into a business venture. “Under the Entrepreneurship Development Program, we wanted the four of these to be set up as commercial establishments,” she said.
According to a press release, a wide variety of products, including doormats, shopping bags, earrings, coasters, scribbling pads, cups, bowls, saucers, art and crafts, fridge magnets, scrunchies and key chains were made by persons with disabilities.
The two-day event will conclude on September 27.
