A POCSO accused prisoner, who escaped from police custody while undergoing treatment at Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital (KKGMCH) in Asaripallam on Thursday, was secured by the police in Eraniel within eight hours.
According to police, Stephen Raj, 36, a prisoner lodged at the Kanniyakumari district jail in Nagercoil in connection with a POCSO case registered by Marthandam All Women Police Station, had been undergoing treatment at KKGMCH. He was admitted to the hospital on September 30 due to health issues.
On Thursday, he reportedly sought permission to use the toilet and escaped from police custody. With the help of CCTV cameras, a special team of police followed and secured him in Eraniel within about eight hours of his escape. Further investigation was on.
