The Avadi City Police arrested 11 men who were involved in autorickshaw racing on the Puzhal–Tambaram Inner Ring Road.
According to the police, the incident occurred near the Porur Tollgate in the Avadi Police Commissionerate limits, on the Puzhal–Tambaram stretch of the Inner Ring Road at around 3.30 pm on January 15. Autorickshaws were driven at high speed, dangerously overtaking other vehicles, endangering public safety and disrupting traffic.
Police said the racers were followed by their accomplices on two-wheelers, who filmed the stunt using mobile phones and uploaded the videos on social media.
The Traffic Investigation Wing of Avadi City Police registered a case and launched an investigation. The police arrested A. Pugalenthi, 34, of Vyasarpadi, G. Gokul, 26, of Nungambakkam, I. Suresh, 26, of Avadi and eight others.
