Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy on Saturday asked people to be cautious while giving surety to accused in serious criminal cases.
If the accused did not turn up before the trail courts for long time, those who gave surety will have to face the music as their properties will be attached in addition to forefeiting surety amount, he warned.
Pointing out at 38 notorious crime accused, who have remained at large for several years in serious criminal cases after securing bail, Mr. Reddy said that the city police have started acting against persons who gave surety for them.
Mr. Reddy said it is the responsibility of those who gave surety to ensure that the accused appears before the trial courts on a regular basis. “If accused fails to appear, then the surety amount will be forfeited. Properties of those who have surety will be attached. Following attachment, it will be difficult for those who gave surety to transact using that property,” the Police Commissioner said.
