A head constable attached to the Avadi Tank Factory police station was arrested on Saturday, after he staged a black-flag protest near his residence in Muthapudupet, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chennai on Sunday.

The constable, Kothandapani, was detained by Muthapudupet police for questioning. He allegedly staged the protest to draw attention to alleged medical negligence in the treatment of his 10-year-old daughter at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Egmore.

Kothandapani, who resides within the Muthapudupet police station limits, had earlier served in the Prohibition Enforcement Wing. He had previously raised allegations of medical negligence against the government hospital over the treatment provided to his daughter.
