Police to step up security on New Year eve at Tiruchi

The Tiruchi City Police will step up security at important locations on December 31st night to ensure order and avert any untoward incidents on the eve of the New Year.

Around 500 police personnel are to be deployed for providing bandobust at places of worship and places where the public assembled in large numbers from 9 p.m. on December 31st night to ensure that the New Year eve celebrations goes off peacefully.

The City Police has imposed a ban on bike stunts, taking out two-wheeler processions, bursting crackers and night dance events at hotels. Vehicle checks would be conducted intensively at 18 locations in the city. Traffic Marshal vehicles are to be deployed to monitor and check bike stunts and bike races by youth. 

Stern action would be initiated against those found indulging in drunk driving, overspeeding and rash driving to celebrate the dawn of the New Year, a police press release said.
