Belagavi Police have urged the general public to verify claims made by finance companies and consultants before making investments.
Residents should think twice before responding to online advertisements. They should either seek help from certified professionals or approach the nearest police station. They could also call the police helpline number 112 and seek support. Police officers are willing to help them, Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao told reporters in Belagavi on Wednesday.
He was speaking after receiving a petition from some residents of Vijaya Nagar in Belagavi. They complained that some people from the Shri Ganesh Monthly Annual Fund Scheme misappropriated ₹3 crore of public funds. Earlier, the company promised to give interest payments of 10% per month and collected money from the public.
The complainants have accused Dilip Khachu Naik, Darshan Dilip Naik, Geeta Dilip Naik and Pranjal Darshan Naik of running the fund since 2018 and duping the public. The accused are now refusing to return their deposits, they complained.
They collected monthly payments from investors. Several poor people have lost their money. The promoters are missing, the complainants said.
The Police Commissioner has assured them of carrying out a detailed investigation.
