Quantum wonders enthral science enthusiasts

The week-long Quantum Century science exhibition, organised by the Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishad (KSSP), concluded at Government College, Malappuram, on Wednesday, drawing an overwhelming response from science enthusiasts.

Held in collaboration with Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) and LUKA science portal, the exhibition attracted nearly 6,000 visitors, including 4,000 students.

Over 100 schools from across the district sent students to the exhibition, which witnessed a heavy turnout on the final day.

Curated by leading scientists and subject experts, the exhibition broke away from conventional science fair formats and offered visitors immersive insights into the world of quantum science.

Interactive displays showcased a wide range of themes: from a virtual reality journey to the world’s largest particle physics laboratory and introductions to quantum computers and quantum biology, to explorations of the mysteries behind lightning, the Big Bang theory, the periodic table of elements, and a hands-on experience of the Raman Effect.

The exhibition featured exhibits across 28 thematic areas, with Schrodinger’s cat, drawn from the famed thought experiment of the renowned physicist, emerging as the star attraction. Nearly 100 trained science students from various colleges guided visitors, explaining the concept behind each exhibit.

Mohammed Shareef Kolathodi, head of the Physics department, Government College, Malappuram, inaugurated the valedictory function. C.P. Suresh Babu, KSSP Malappuram district president, presided over the event.

Organised as part of the celebrations marking the centenary of quantum science, the Quantum Century exhibition will next be hosted at MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram, from February 11 to 14.
