Railway employees affiliated to Southern Railway Mazdoor union staged a demonstration here on Monday pressing for a charter of demands, including interim-relief under 8th Central Pay Commission with effect from January 1, 2026.
The protesters, led by the divisional secretary of the union, J.M. Rafi, condemned the railway administration for surrendering the vacant posts instead of filling them up.
Risk and hardship allowance for all safety department employees, 70% exemption of Income Tax on Kilometre allowance, ensuring bringing running staff back to headquarters within 36 hours on leaving it were among the demands.
The union was also opposed to outsourcing of employees, alternate employment opportunity for women employees among running staff, train manager and track maintainer were other demands.
Assistant Divisional secretary, V. Ramkumar, was prsent.
